Prospecting Outing March 10th, 11th, 12th, at our Barstow area claims

The club is planning a Prospecting outing on March 10th thru the 12th at our Barstow area claims hosted by our very own Lucky Joe. . Joe Chmiel will be hosting Friday, Saturday, Sunday,,,, March, 10th, 11th 12th. There is room for a camper or trailer on the shamrock claim, but the club will not have a porta poty this time. No potluck on Saturday but some members will be car pooling into Barstow on Saturday at a local restaurant. You can download the club claims in the area in our claims section. Also there is lots of open ground in the area to nugget shoot. I think it still may be a little wet to drywash, everything depends on the weather that weekend as well.

Please note that damp ground does not mean that gold nuggets and flakes can not be found! It is true that dry washing is not advised due to the current high water content of the soil. But "enhanced" metal detecting definitely is an option. There are places, for example, on the Desert Queen Bee where surface dirt can be shoveled aside and then metal detected. To help this process work a good magnet should first be run over the exposed dirt to pick out the ironstones. That way there will be less false signals to dig. I will be present to help anyone desirous of learning more about metal detecting for natural gold nuggets. See you there!!
